Overview

At Health Innovation Manchester (HInM), we harness the power of innovation to transform the health and wellbeing of Greater Manchester's 2.8 million citizens. By accelerating innovation into the NHS and wider care system, we aim to improve lives, reduce inequalities, and deliver better health outcomes.

We are seeking an exceptional Finance Business Partner to join our Finance team. This is a critical position within HInM, providing financial and commercial expertise to support our ambitious programme of transformation across health, care, industry, and academia. Health Innovation Manchester is hosted by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will lead HInM’s finance and procurement work. You’ll support financial planning, reporting, governance, and compliance, ensuring the organisation meets its statutory duties and operates sustainably. This includes budgeting, financial performance, costing, procurement, commercial contracts, and risk management.

As a trusted adviser, you’ll work with Senior Managers and Delivery Teams, supporting programmes, projects and strategic decisions. You will also work externally with key stakeholders including NHS bodies, universities, local authorities, industry partners, and national funders.

Responsibilities
  • Lead HInM’s finance and procurement work, supporting financial planning, budgeting, reporting, governance, and compliance.
  • Provide financial and commercial expertise to support transformation programmes across health, care, industry, and academia.
  • Collaborate with Senior Managers and Delivery Teams on programmes, projects, and strategic decisions.
  • Engage externally with key stakeholders including NHS bodies, universities, local authorities, industry partners, and national funders.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Substantial experience in financial management, ideally blending experience across a range of sectors, including public sector.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience of project accounting, complex financial planning and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to partnership working.
  • Experience of procurement, contracting and resource planning in a matrixed environment.
  • Proven influencing and people management skills.
Why Join Us

This is a rare opportunity to support the development of health and care innovation in one of the UK's most dynamic regions. You’ll join a supportive organisation with a strong collaborative ethos and a commitment to making real impact on people’s lives.

MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England with a turnover of over £3bn and is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We’re creating an exceptional integrated health and social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year. We bring together 10 hospitals and community services from across Manchester, Trafford and beyond, championing collaborative working and transformation, encouraging our 30,000 workforce to pursue ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate, offering substantial opportunities.

We’ve created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient and staff experience, operational effectiveness, and drive research and innovation through Hive, our Electronic Patient Record system launched in September 2022.

We’re proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. We’re also embarking on our Green Plan to support sustainable healthcare.

At MFT, we foster an inclusive culture, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, and protect your health and wellbeing as we shape the future together.
