Job description

Electrically biased field engineer

Under general supervision of the UK Service Manager. Will be based in the UK service lab in High Wycombe, but will spend approximately 60%-90% of the time out of the office (dependent on customer demand) carrying out field service work, at various locations throughout the UK, Europe and possibly Middle East and Africa. The field service will be concerned with the servicing, repair and calibration of our manufactured test instrumentation at customer facilities, however there will be some scope to work with our instruments when working in house in the High Wycombe facility.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assess on‑site customer requirements, and plan travel requirements to fulfil the customer needs.
  2. Carry out on‑site service, repairs and calibrations to customers instruments following in‑house work procedures.
  3. Carry out on‑site installations of new equipment at customers site.
  4. Carry out basic operator training at customers site.
  5. Prepare quotations for on‑site work.
  6. Maintain tools and parts stocks to be able to cover all customer on‑site requirements.
  7. Keep records and write reports, both in SAP and other systems, of all operations carried out.
  8. Provide remote technical support and troubleshooting to end users.
  9. Communicate well with other members of the service team, to help provide efficient service to our customers.
  10. Complete other assignments and special projects as requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
  • Basic education in Mathematics, English and Science.
  • A College certificate in electronics servicing or similar. Desired.
  • A University degree in a mechanical/electronics subject.
Experience
  • 1 or 2 years minimum in the service sector is essential.
  • Good computer literacy and accuracy is of paramount importance.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
  • Above average analytical, decision making, problem solving and research skills.
  • GCSE level language, maths, reading, writing and reasoning skills.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED
  • Use standard office equipment such as copier, fax, telephone, etc.
  • Operate computer and other electronic equipment.
  • Use hand and generated tools figurate and manipulate small objects.

    • Normal periods of concentration required to complete assignments within established deadlines.
    • Routinely reads, writes and makes mathematical calculations.
    • Regularly required to weigh and measure, conduct research, analyse data and create methodologies/visualise conclusions to resolve problems, make effective decisions and manage resources.

    • Sits and/or stands for extended periods of time.
    • Stands and walks/moves to different locations as needed.
    • Manoeuvres large boxes/carrying cases containing tools and spare parts.

    • Regularly required to touch objects and distinguish between colours.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is typically performed either at a customer’s facility or in a standard office setting working at a desk or table on a level surface. Air quality and noise levels are within normal limits. Eye protection is usually not required. Under normal conditions, exposure to excessive noise, dust, humidity, and fumes is rare. Maybe required to work more hours than normally expected during a regular workweek depending on workload and deadline requirements.
