Overview

The employer is seeking a Personal Assistant (PA) to support a young lady with personal care, mobility, and social activities. The role involves assisting after school in the evenings and, in time, providing social support to help maximise independence. The individual lives with family who currently provide most care, but the aim is to access a PA to reduce reliance on family support. Family smoke outside.

Employer Disability and Health Conditions: Mobility / Physical, Spinal Cord, Cognitive / Learning, Invisible. The individual has one kidney, which can lead to UTIs, and neuropathic bladder and bowel.

The individual keeps pets at home; there are two dogs who are not a threat.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Support and/or prompt with personal care (e.g., toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed).
  • Support and/or prompt the individual to take medication.
  • Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
  • Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
  • Assist and encourage socialisation and participation in activities.
  • Promote and encourage friendships and independence.
  • Develop a good and trusting one-to-one working relationship.
  • Work with respect to the individual’s changing needs; duties may vary from day to day and additional tasks may be required as reasonably needed.
  • Report all accidents to the employer immediately and report defects or hazards to ensure safety at all times.

Requirements and Skills
  • Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy; do not use social media in relation to the job.
  • Work on own initiative and as part of a team.

Training
  • First Aid (training provided by the employer).
  • Catheter Care (training provided by the employer).
Working Hours

Hours per week: 6. Dates and times are flexible and can be discussed at interview.
