The Role

As a Facility Control Officer, you’ll be at the heart of operations on the 9 Dock site, ensuring the safe and efficient coordination of dockside activities that support the UK’s nuclear submarine programme. This is a dynamic and hands-on role where no two days are the same.

Day-to-day, you’ll be the appointed person responsible for implementing critical safety controls and interfacing with contractors, operators, and senior stakeholders, making a real impact on national defence and your own career development.

Responsibilities
  • Managing flammable and gas bottle inventories to ensure safe storage and usage.
  • Coordinating vehicle access and logistics across the programme.
  • Governing crane operations and dockside movement controls.
  • Overseeing the implementation of work control processes.
  • Delivering safety briefings to personnel across all levels.

This role is full time, 39.4 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard. There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. Whilst OWP is not guaranteed; it involves a 4-week shift cycle consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. If you would like to know more about OWP please contact the Recruitment Team.

Essential Experience Of The Facility Control Officer
  • Confident using digital tools and systems.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and delivering briefings.
  • Skilled in managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Background in engineering or technical environments.
  • Experience in process management and operational control.
Qualifications For The Facility Control Officer
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Nuclear familiarisation training is preferred but not essential.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
