Job description

A remarkable and rare opportunity has arisen to join a stunning Grade I listed medieval estate near Stow-on-the-Wold. Set within five acres of beautifully designed gardens, the estate is currently undergoing an ambitious and inspiring redevelopment, led by the renowned landscape designer Cleve West. This long‑term project will continue to evolve over the coming years, offering a truly unique working environment.

The estate is now seeking an Experienced Gardener to support the Head Gardener in bringing this vision to life. With a newly completed glasshouse and the walled gardens now entering an exciting phase of redevelopment, this role offers the opportunity to play a meaningful part in shaping an exceptional private garden. Applicants should be energetic, hands‑on, and enthusiastic about working within a dynamic and evolving landscape. A flexible and proactive approach is essential, with involvement ranging from general garden maintenance, preparing the grounds through to planting and border creation, making this an outstanding opportunity to be part of a truly special horticultural project.

The Experienced Gardener will work closely with the Head Gardener and two other estate staff, supporting the day‑to‑day care and development of the gardens and wider landscape. Alongside the redevelopment works, the role will involve maintaining a diverse range of garden areas, including extensive lawns, riverbanks, herbaceous borders, wildflower meadows, orchard, woodland and areas across the wider estate.

This position would suit a driven, motivated, and detail‑oriented gardener who is passionate about high standards and craftsmanship.

Suitable candidates will ideally possess a horticultural qualification equivalent to RHS 2 or have experience in horticulturally diverse gardens with good plant knowledge and physical fitness. Practical experience with a range of garden machinery is required; with spraying and chainsaw certificates desirable. Additional training can be provided.
