Job summary

An independent school is looking for an Invigilator to support the examination process. The role is flexible with zero hours contracts, requiring reliable candidates with effective communication skills. Invigilator Role

Successful candidates will be appointed on zero hours contracts. The hours of work will be negotiated to accommodate the needs of our pupils and cannot be guaranteed. Training will be given in the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and Ewell Castle School regulations and instructions. Ewell Castle School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the receipt of an enhanced DBS certificate.

Shifts will be agreed and agreed upon during September, November, January, April, May and June. There may be additional ad hoc days throughout the year.

General Requirements

Experience of invigilation is not required as training in the role and duties of an invigilator will be provided. Invigilators are required to: declare whether they have invigilated previously and whether they have any current maladministration or malpractice sanctions applied to them; confirm their availability in advance of main examination periods; confirm the confidentiality and security requirements relating to the invigilation process are known, understood and will be followed at all times.

Main Duties
  • Report to and be briefed by the exams officer prior to each exam session
  • Be briefed on the exam material and any special instructions
  • Keep exam question papers and materials secure before, during and after exams
  • Ensure exam rooms are set up according to the requirements
  • Admit candidates into exam rooms under formal examination conditions
  • Give full attention to conducting the examinations properly
  • Identify candidates and seat candidates according to the required arrangements
  • Distribute the correct question papers and exam materials to candidates
  • Instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams
  • Deal with candidate questions according to the regulations
  • Start exams
  • Supervise and observe candidates throughout the whole time examinations are in progress
  • Be vigilant and remain aware of incidents or emerging situations
  • Keep disruption in examination rooms to a minimum
  • Deal with emergencies or irregularities effectively
  • Record and report any incidents, disruption or irregularities
  • Complete attendance registers
  • After examinations instruct candidates in finishing their examinations and collect examination scripts and materials
  • Dismiss candidates from the examination room
  • Check candidates’ names on scripts, match the details on the attendance register
  • Securely return all examination scripts, question papers and materials to the exams officer
Other Tasks
  • Undertake training, update and review sessions as required
  • Undertake relevant online invigilator training and assessment, centre-specific training/updates for that academic year
  • Undertake, where required and where able, other duties requested by the exams officer, for example: centre supervision of examination timetable clash candidates between examination sessions, facilitating access arrangements for candidates (e.g. as a reader, scribe, etc.)
  • Other exams-related administrative tasks including maintaining question paper security by supporting the ‘second pair of eyes check’printing and ad hoc admin tasks as required
