Overview

We are currently seeking an Estimator / Designer (IT Infrastructure) to join a well-established technology and engineering contractor, supporting the pricing and design of structured cabling and IT infrastructure works across the North-West.

This role is open to both mid-level and senior applicants, depending on experience. Senior-level candidates will typically have 5+ years experience and be comfortable running bids end-to-end.

This is a hybrid role based from Oldham, with two days working from home per week after an initial induction period.

You will support or lead (depending on experience) estimating and design activity across IT infrastructure projects, including structured cabling (copper and fibre), low-voltage electrical infrastructure and wireless / cellular systems. The right person will be confident interpreting technical information, shaping scope and assumptions, and contributing to bid-stage discussions.

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on your level, you’ll take ownership of defined bid packages or run bids end-to-end, including :

• Preparing estimates and tender submissions for IT infrastructure and structured cabling projects
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and site information, translating requirements into clear scope and pricing
• Producing and managing assumptions, exclusions, clarifications and risk items
• Supporting or producing technical design input and pre-bid surveys where required
• Creating pricing models, BoQs and supporting tender documentation (Excel-heavy)
• Contributing to bid-stage client communication, helping shape solutions not just price them
• Working with estimating software and internal systems (Simpro experience is beneficial)

What We’re Looking For

Estimator / Designer level

Strong estimating foundations and technical awareness of structured cabling and IT infrastructure

Comfortable supporting bids and building up ownership over time

Confident communicator with a practical, process-driven approach

Senior Estimator / Designer level (typically 5+ years)

Proven experience running bids end-to-end and owning submissions

Able to shape scope, pricing strategy, risk and commercial assumptions

Comfortable engaging with stakeholders at bid stage and influencing outcomes

Key skills

Structured cabling (copper and fibre), IT infrastructure, and related low-voltage systems

Strong Excel capability

Detail-focused and commercially aware

Simpro experience is a plus

This role is not suited to junior support-only estimators with no bid-stage involvement.

Salary and Benefits

• 35,000 to £65,000 depending on experience

Hybrid working (post-induction)

25 days holiday + bank holidays (Christmas shutdown included, with 3 days taken from allowance)
