Job Title : Estimator / Tendering Engineer – Renewable & Building Services Sector

Location : Manchester / Stockport

Salary : £45,000 – £50,000 (dependent on experience)

Hours : 39 hours per week

Contract : Permanent

Working Pattern : Primarily office-based with an element of hybrid working

About the Role

We are seeking an Estimator / Tendering Engineer to support sales activity through the preparation of high-quality tenders, quotations and proposals within the renewable and building services sector. This role plays a key part in converting sales opportunities into profitable projects while ensuring technical, commercial and operational requirements are met.

You will work closely with sales, service and production teams, contributing to the successful delivery of technically robust and commercially competitive bids.

A background in building services is ideal, with candidates from either mechanical or electrical engineering disciplines encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed tenders, quotations and proposals in line with client requirements
  • Review and analyse engineering tender documentation and specifications
  • Interpret technical and commercial conditions, producing comments or deviations where required
  • Liaise with internal departments to ensure customer requirements are met in a cost-effective manner
  • Conduct site visits where necessary to ensure accurate cost and rate analysis
  • Prepare cost estimates, price make-ups and budgetary submissions
  • Manage tender submissions to meet deadlines and business priorities
  • Support project handovers to design and delivery teams
  • Participate in clarification processes with clients and respond to technical queries
  • Monitor tender progress and compile project status reports
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and industry standards
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of tendering processes and best practices
  • Carry out additional duties as required by the line manager

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential Requirements
  • Background in building services engineering
  • Mechanical or Electrical engineering experience
  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • OR
  • HND / HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 3+ years’ experience
  • Experience producing technical and commercial tenders or estimates
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and / or electrical systems
  • Ability to build cost models and understand pricing strategies
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Full UK driving licence
Desirable
  • Experience within renewable energy, power generation or energy projects or Building Services
  • Previous proposal or tender management experience
  • Knowledge of health & safety and CDM regulations
