Job summary

Overview

Please note: Although this role is advertised by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, the position is based at and worked on behalf of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust properties through the One Lancashire and South Cumbria (One LSC) corporate collaboration. The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftspersons, and dedicated support staff.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out semi‑skilled maintenance work within acute and community NHS properties.
  • Support and assist trade staff with routine maintenance, fault finding/repair, and installation work to maintain a safe and fit‑for‑purpose environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Work both as part of a team and individually, prioritising patient safety and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Experience in general property maintenance, groundskeeping, and/or general handyman duties.
  • Excellent self‑motivation, ability to work relatively unsupervised, and strong communication skills.
  • Healthcare background advantageous but not essential – specific training will be provided.
Location

The post is based at Furness General Hospital, which operates alongside Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital, and a range of community healthcare premises across the Morecambe Bay area.
