ESOL Teacher – Sessional Tutor
Location: Islington
Hours: 15 per week
Pay: PAYE £20.59 per hour | Umbrella £27.23 per hour

ESOL Teacher (Sessional Tutor) to join the Adult Community Learning Service in Islington. This rewarding position plays a vital role in helping adults across the borough—particularly those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged—develop their English language skills, boost confidence, and progress into further education, training, or employment opportunities.

The Role

As an ESOL Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that meet the needs of learners from diverse backgrounds. You’ll be expected to bring creativity to your teaching methods, embed digital and employability skills into the curriculum, and ensure accurate completion of all administrative tasks. Above all, you’ll be committed to promoting inclusion, progression, and learner success.

Key Duties

Plan, prepare, and deliver both accredited and non-accredited ESOL courses in community settings.

Integrate digital learning and employability into your sessions to support learner outcomes.

Complete registers, enrolments, and achievement records to a high standard.

Encourage good attendance and punctuality, and monitor learner progression.

Contribute to course reviews, quality improvements, and meet Ofsted standards.

Take part in CPD and professional development to maintain best practice.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and community partners to enhance learning opportunities.

About You

We are looking for a dedicated ESOL professional who is passionate about supporting adults to achieve their goals, no matter their starting point.

Requirements:

A recognised Level 3 teaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, or equivalent).

Minimum Level 2 in English and maths (GCSE or equivalent).

Proven experience teaching ESOL to adults in community or FE settings.

Experience engaging vulnerable or hard-to-reach learners.

Strong lesson planning and course design skills, adaptable to different levels.

Excellent communication, organisation, and time management abilities.

A commitment to equality, inclusivity, and learner progression.

Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
