Job description
Overview

As a Manager within Dispute Advisory Services ("DAS"), you will take a lead role on a portfolio of engagements of varying size and complexity. You will have a primary focus on Dispute Advisory Services, though you may also be involved in other engagements ranging from financial, fraud or misconduct investigations, through to proactive risk management and regulatory-driven compliance work. You will manage a portfolio of Forensic DAS engagements with a primary focus on Dispute Advisory, providing advice and support in connection with breach of contract, transaction, warranty and completion accounts, expert determinations, expropriations, product recall, and business disruption and other insurance claims. You will act independently in managing engagements under the supervision of the engagement leader, manage risks and financials, and prepare reports for Senior Manager / Director / Partner review. You will contribute to the development of propositions / proposals / bids for future work and engage credibly with senior stakeholders at clients (e.g., board-level individuals at corporate clients and/or law firm partners) on behalf of KPMG. You will develop and oversee more junior team members and demonstrate a commitment to continuous self and team development.

Responsibilities
  • Manage engagement teams of varying size, which may include onshore and offshore colleagues, contractors and/or colleagues from other member firms. Oversee and train colleagues and take responsibility for the quality of work produced on engagements.
  • Liaise directly with clients, external counsel, senior members of the KPMG team and other third parties as required. May manage multiple senior-level stakeholders across multiple projects at any one time.
  • In Disputes work, manage client expectations given the high materiality of outcomes, while ensuring delivery of high-quality work and appropriate outcomes from the dispute process (e.g., post‑M&A dispute determinations with reasons).
  • Take on Engagement Manager responsibilities on small to medium-sized engagements, reporting to Engagement Leaders and effectively managing risks and financials associated with client engagements.
  • Work with senior client staff who are invested in the outcome of the dispute, requiring careful management of relationships and expectations.
  • Contribute to business development activities and be involved in marketing initiatives to develop the Forensic DAS practice.
  • Locations: core hubs include Leeds, London, Canary Wharf, Manchester. Flexible working options available; discussions on location and hours can be arranged.
Qualifications
  • Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
  • Experience in Forensic Dispute work, either as part of the Expert Witness team (in a legal claim) or in the context of a post-M&A transaction expert determination.
  • Broader experience in audit, financial due diligence, and other forensic specialisms is beneficial.
  • Excellent written skills for drafting Forensic Dispute reports.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing projects, including elements of financial and risk management.
  • Experience in scoping and defining Forensic projects is preferable.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage small teams.
  • Ability to understand complex contractual documents to understand the basis of the dispute and to articulate complex findings in written and oral presentations for varied audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing client needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to build, develop and maintain relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Strong people skills with the ability to inspire and develop junior colleagues.
  • Experience in business development activities and an enthusiasm to contribute to promoting the Forensic DAS practice.
