Qualifications

About the Role

As a member of our Environmental Enforcement team, you will be part of a small team that delivers a range of environmental enforcement functions across Kingston and Sutton. The role includes investigating complaints about fly‑tipping and other waste offences, identifying and enforcing abandoned vehicles, tackling unlawful mooring on the River Thames and using a range of measures to resolve complaints for our residents. This is not a uniformed officer role; patrols and on‑the‑spot penalty issuing are not expected. You will keep detailed records, investigate allegations and determine the most appropriate enforcement action to secure resolution of issues.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate offences, gather evidence, take statements, and prepare case files.
  • Attend court hearings where required.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of investigations and enforcement actions.
  • Work independently, prioritise a varied workload, and make reasoned judgements.
  • Support the wider Shared Environment Service when called upon.
Qualifications
  • Experience of investigation and enforcement activities, preferably in environmental enforcement.
  • Knowledge and experience of dealing with various enviro‑crime issues under EPA, commercial waste carrying, fly‑tipping, fly‑posting and graffiti.
  • Conversant with PACE and RIPA.
  • Good ICT skills and a good communicator.
  • Organised, adaptable and able to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure, work accurately, diligently and prioritise a varied workload, problem‑solve and make reasoned judgements.
  • Access to a vehicle for work and a full driving licence are essential.
