Job summary

A local recruitment agency is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer for an interim assignment in South West England. This hybrid role requires a commitment of at least 2 to 3 days on-site each week. Responsibilities include supporting the Private Sector Housing Team by addressing issues such as damp and mould, enforcing Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards, and collaborating with landlords and tenants to enhance housing standards. Strong experience in housing enforcement is required. Competitive salary offered.

Buckingham Futures is working in partnership with a local authority in South West England to recruit an experienced and qualified Environmental Health Officer / Private Sector Housing Officer for an interim assignment.

Working Pattern: Hybrid – minimum 2 to 3 days on-site per week

This is a front‑line role supporting a busy and dedicated Private Sector Housing Team while the current post holder is on long‑term sick leave.

Key Responsibilities
  • Damp and mould
  • Disrepair
  • Waste accumulation
  • Enforce Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES)
  • Bring long‑term empty properties back into use
  • Work with landlords and tenants to improve standards in the private rented sector
  • (Desirable) Administer Disabled Facilities Grants
  • (Desirable) Use Uniform software
Requirements
  • Strong knowledge and experience in private sector housing enforcement
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast‑paced environment
