About the job Environmental Consultant - Water Specialist
  • Scotland Remote (Central Belt preferred)
  • Consultant or Senior considered
  • Remote & site based with occasional office visits to Glasgow

Naturally Compliant is a post-consent environmental consultancy dedicated to enhancing environmental performance during the construction phase of infrastructure and development of nationally significant projects.

This role blends hydrological expertise - particularly in construction phase drainage - with broader environmental consultancy responsibilities. Youll contribute to Naturally Compliants mission to deliver sustainable, compliant, and high-performing projects across Scotland & the UK.

The Role - Hydrologist

Provide specialist hydrology input during construction, focusing on drainage design, implementation, and compliance.

  • Develop, review, and implement environmental management plans and drainage strategies.
  • Deliver site-based environmental assurance and advisory services to clients and contractors.
  • Monitor water quality, surface water runoff, and sediment control measures.
  • Liaise with design teams to influence environmentally sound drainage solutions.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with environmental permits and planning conditions.
  • Prepare technical reports and contribute to client documentation.
  • Support stakeholder engagement and build strong client relationships.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate hydrology into broader environmental frameworks.
  • Contribute to Naturally Compliants continuous improvement and knowledge sharing culture.
About you
Experience required:
  • Minimum 3 years experience in hydrology, with a focus on construction phase drainage.
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Solid understanding of UK environmental and construction sector regulations.
  • Experience with construction phase drainage systems, water quality monitoring, and permit compliance.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems and site-based delivery.
  • Membership of CIWEM, ICE, or similar professional body.
  • Experience working on renewable energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD, or hydrological modelling tools.
  • CSCS card or equivalent site access certification
  • Self-Motivation: Proactive in seeking new opportunities, learning, and staying updated with legislation and best practices.
  • Strategic Thinking: Contributing to business development, client relationships, and long-term ecological planning.
  • Project Management: Coordinating timelines, budgets, and deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Clear Communicator: Able to explain complex ecological concepts to non-specialists, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Confident in liaising with landowners, planners, regulators (e.g., NatureScot), and community groups.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to assess ecological data, interpret patterns, and make informed decisions.
  • Problem-Solving: Creative and practical approaches to ecological challenges, such as habitat restoration or species management.
  • Location: Scotland, with the right to work in the UK.
