Overview

SGN is strengthening its Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) capability. This new role – the Assurance Officer – is pivotal in unifying and driving consistent assurance standards across the business. It sits within the Risk, Audit and Assurance function and supports SGN’s group‑wide risk and assurance strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver 2nd Line training and guidance to reinforce testing methodology and assurance processes.
  • Support reporting requirements, including analysis, pack preparation and traceability from assurance work to risk exposure and management actions for the Executive Risk and Audit Committee.
  • Manage and lead Enterprise Risk and Assurance‑related projects as a key member of the ERM team.
  • Help develop SGN’s enterprise assurance methodology and minimum standards, monitoring adoption and escalation of non‑compliance through ERM governance.
  • Establish clear, consistent definitions and boundaries across the organisation.
  • Drive adoption through stakeholder engagement, training/briefings and ongoing quality review of assurance outputs.
  • Identify gaps in SGN’s assurance needs that are vital to the organisation, working with key stakeholders to remediate in a timely, efficient and effective manner.
  • Work with the wider assurance community to provide a cohesive and comprehensive view of assurance across the risk and control environment for the Executive Risk, Audit and Assurance Committee, Board and Audit Committee.
What You Will Need
  • Proven experience in assurance, audit, compliance monitoring, quality assurance or risk/control testing within a complex organisation.
  • Excellent understanding of risk and control concepts, including control design vs operating effectiveness, key controls & control statements and root cause/thematic analysis for control weaknesses/failures.
  • Demonstrable ability to set standards and drive adoption through influence and governance, including working effectively across multiple teams without direct line management authority.
  • Critical thinker with high personal credibility, independence of thought and confidence to provide constructive challenge.
You Will Stand Out if You Have
  • A qualification in risk management or a relevant professional qualification.
  • Experience in regulated and/or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Experience in risk quantification or related knowledge.
