Location: Home-Based, Supporting Cumbria, Scotland, and the North of England
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: £38,000 – £40,000, dependent on experience

NXT Recruitment is supporting an established engineering services provider as they look to appoint an Engineering Surveyor to join their expanding team. This is a varied, client-facing role offering the opportunity to work across a wide range of sectors, carrying out statutory examinations of plant and machinery in line with current health and safety legislation.

The role is home-based, with travel to client sites, and offers a strong balance between independence and structured support through internal scheduling and planning.

The role

Reporting to senior operations leadership, you will fogy responsibility for completing thorough statutory inspections and examinations, ensuring clients remain compliant with relevant regulations. Quality and accuracy are prioritised, allowing time to complete detailed inspections and reporting.

Key responsibilities
  • Carry out statutory examinations and inspections of plant and machinery
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, including LOLERүүд, PUWER, PSSR, and COSHH
  • Produce clear, accurate, and detailed inspection reports
  • Provide a consistently high level of customer service
  • Build professional, long-term relationships with clients
  • Make sound technical decisions based on examination findings
  • Manage your own workload to meet agreed timeframes
  • Work independently while contributing to a wider engineering team
  • Complete inspection reports using tablet-based systems
About you
  • Engineering background with a minimum of five years’ practical experience working with plant and machinery
  • Recognised qualification in mechanical engineering at HNC, Hquipn, NVQ Level 4, or equivalent
  • Confident in your technical knowledge and decision‑making
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer focused with a professional and personable approach
  • Well organised with excellent time management skills
  • IT literate and comfortable using digital reporting tools
  • Full and clean UK driving license
  • LEEA or similar inspection training is advantageous but not essential

Please note, this role is physically demanding and may involve lifting, climbing, working at height, confined spaces, and exposure to varying environmental conditions.
