Stagecoach East are inviting applications for an Engineering Manager to lead a team in one of our Depots based in Bedfordshire.

You will be responsible for a team of engineering colleagues including skilled vehicle technicians, coach builders, electricians and our presentation team members who do an amazing job of getting the depot fleet of vehicles safely out on the road for our local communities every single day.

Our customers rely on our services to get them to work to the high street, to hospitals, to days away and nights out and our engineering teams make sure our vehicles travelling on average 9 million miles across the East are in tip‑top condition to do just that.

Our Engineering Manager is the pin that holds it all together and you’ll be responsible for ensuring your team is prepared, trained and motivated to deliver vehicles which are safe, reliable and presented to the high standards that our customers and drivers expect.

You don’t have to come from a bus background (we wouldn’t be put off if you did though!) but you will need to have worked in a related field such as the truck / haulage industries in an engineering setting with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 for HGV or PCV Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent.

You will have experience in managing and maintaining the performance of people, budgets and workloads ensuring the quality of output and that the legal and regulatory requirements are met and maintained at all times.

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, proactive, can tackle challenges head on and get results in this fast‑paced environment.

It goes without saying we’ll give you support, training and development wherever you need to be a brilliant Engineering Manager.

Benefits
  • Great benefits including a generous company pension scheme, 22 days holiday, free travel for you and a companion, free financial education and affordable loans and a range of money‑saving opportunities including discounts on holidays, retail, cinema outings, dental insurance, vehicle breakdown cover, hotels and attractions
  • Free travel for you and a companion on our buses so on your days off you can be off shopping without worrying about parking the car or heading off for a day in the city or by the seaside without worrying about the cost of fuel or parking
  • Training a dedicated high‑level training programme to reinforce your existing skills and give you an opportunity to gain a qualification
  • Varied work – as one of the UK’s leading transport operators we’re investing heavily in vehicles and depot infrastructure so there’s plenty to keep you interested
  • Plenty of job security from being a key worker at the heart of our communities where we always need great people to support teams servicing our fleet of vehicles – be they Alexander Dennis, Scania, Volvo or Optare
  • A safe environment – we provide boots, overalls and specialist equipment so there’s no need to worry about being safe and protected or having the right kit for the job
  • UK‑wide opportunities – if you’re moving out of choice or circumstance we run bus companies across the UK so you can transfer to a new location
  • Career development through developing your technical and management skills on teams supporting future hybrid and electric vehicles and career progression to Directorship
  • An employee assistance programme to support health and wellbeing through a confidential service available 24 hours a day which provides specialist guidance and assistance on a range of personal and work‑related issues from dealing with stress and anxiety to managing financial, marital or legal issues. Face‑to‑face counselling sessions are also offered alongside telephone and online support
  • A great working environment with loads of opportunity to make new friends from a bunch of great workmates, managers who work hard to create great places to work and employee networks building inclusive environments for women, veterans, carers, multicultural and LGBTQ colleagues

Stagecoach workplace culture is one where everyone can be themselves and where all the differences our people bring to the business are celebrated. We welcome applications from all irrespective of background gender, ethnicity, race, religion, beliefs, disability, neurodiversity, sexual orientation or age.

So if you would like the opportunity to work alongside and be supported by our Chief Engineer as well as a group of fellow experienced Engineering and Operational Managers and be part of a fantastic Stagecoach family, apply now.

Requirements

You don’t have to come from a bus background (but we wouldn’t be put off if you did!) but you will need to have worked in a related field such as the truck, light commercial or rail industries in an engineering setting and have a passion for working with an exceptional team of engineers.

You’ll generally be working Monday to Friday with weekends as needed and supporting our team across all shifts along with your Deputy Engineering Manager will be required.
