Job description

We are looking to recruit an Engineering Assessor.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the successful team at The Engineering College delivering a high-quality learning experience to engineering students, ensuring they reach their maximum educational and developmental potential.

You will be joining a small, supportive trade team where your specific skill set will complement the existing expertise, so you must be a team player and an effective communicator.

You will be a time‑served Engineer and hold at least Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) with industry experience and suitable teacher/assessor qualifications. If this is a career change for you, moving out of industry and stepping into education for the first time, we can train you to convert your vocational skills to a teaching role. You must be genuinely looking to switch to a real and worthwhile career in technical training for industry and willing to work towards achieving a relevant teaching and assessor qualification which will be fully funded.

Experience of platforms such as OneFile and Canvas is desirable, as are good IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.

You should be confident in managing apprenticeship documentation from registration through to end‑point assessment. During regularly scheduled "on the job" reviews, you will ensure learner progress in the development of knowledge and skills is aligned to their programme and employer requirements, all to a high standard of quality.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for an assessor due to the nature of the role which involves regular travel to engage with apprentices and employers across the Mersey and Cheshire regions and for which mileage, tunnel toll and a monthly car allowance are payable. For these practical reasons, applicants based in or near the local area of our Birkenhead premises may find it more convenient.

There is also scope for the successful candidate to become suitably qualified to carry out Internal Quality Assurance activities to ensure learner portfolios are maintained to the required standard for awarding bodies.

Job Type: Full‑time, Permanent.

Salary: Competitive - negotiable dependent upon experience.

Location: Birkenhead.

Start Date: Immediate / Following notice period.

Hours: Typical working hours are 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 8:00 am – 3:15 pm.

Benefits
  • An opportunity to develop vocational skills and CPD to enrich your knowledge, skills and personal career development.
  • Mentor support to on‑board you in College's approach to teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Generous holiday entitlement of 29 days per year, plus birthday off, plus all public/bank holidays.
  • Medicash Health Care Plan.
  • Life Assurance (Death in Service) Scheme.
  • Auto‑enrolment pension scheme.
  • Family friendly and flexible working policies.
  • Enhanced Sick Pay.
  • Paid toll for Mersey Tunnel commuters.
  • Free Costco membership.
  • Leisure zones including on‑site gym facility, pool/table tennis and bicycle use.
  • Free parking/cycle storage.
  • A calendar punctuated with social and team building events.
