Job summary

A national training organization is seeking an experienced Apprenticeship Skills Coach for a home-based role with national travel. You will manage engineering and manufacturing apprentices, ensuring their welfare and development. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in engineering and coaching, with excellent communication and organizational skills. Requirements include a Level 3 Engineering qualification and a recognized teaching qualification. The role offers opportunities to promote safety and wellbeing across apprenticeships.

Job description
Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Apprenticeship Skills Coach to join MTC Training. This will be a home‑based role with national travel.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of engineering and manufacturing apprentices.
  • Monitor the health, safety and welfare of apprentices.
  • Provide end‑to‑end information, advice and guidance on skills development, End Point Assessment and career development.
  • Monitor and record progress against the Standard to ensure apprentices are developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required prior to their planned end dates.
  • Conduct regular documented progress reviews with apprentices and their employers as per funding rules.
  • Monitor apprentice off‑the‑job records.
  • Complete any funding / MIS documentation such as Breaks in Learning, withdrawals on a timely basis.
  • Plan and complete assessment of development competence qualifications.
  • Plan and complete assessments of apprentice's knowledge, skills and behaviours development, and build subsequent action plans for improvement where required.
  • Use coaching methods in partnership with training centre colleagues and employers to help apprentices develop and apply knowledge, skills and behaviours in their workplace.
  • Build and maintain relationships with apprentices and their employers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration ensuring apprentices complete their apprenticeship within the planned duration.
  • Provide regular caseload progress updates to the Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with Business Development colleagues to identify repeat and new business.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong background and experience of engineering (mechanical, electrical or electronic; multi‑skilled preferred).
  • Customer‑focused coach who can operate across all MTC Training and client locations.
  • Approachable, capable of handling issues with sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Articulate, with strong communication, organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Promotion of safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Understanding of assessment methods and techniques.
  • Understanding of coaching methods.
  • Understanding of engineering Apprenticeship Standards.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship funding rules.
  • Understanding of End Point Assessment.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty.
  • Experience using e‑portfolios (e.g., Smart Assessor) – desirable.
  • Experience using learner management systems such as Pro Monitor – desirable.
Essential Qualifications
  • Level 3 Engineering qualification.
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to gain one.
  • Recognised Assessor qualification such as A1 or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Functional Skills Level 2 / GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English grade C or above.
  • Recognised Quality Assurance qualification such as V1 or Level 4 Internal.
  • Higher qualification (level 4 or above) in an Engineering discipline.
  • Digital training qualifications relevant to education (e.g., Microsoft Learn badges).
