Employee Relations Specialist - Public Sector

Location: Birmingham - Hybrid 1-2 days a week in the office

We are seeking a confident and knowledgeable Employee Relations Specialist to join our People & Culture Team. This dedicated team is focused on providing consistent, expert advice that empowers managers, supports employee well-being, and enhances our service to residents.

Responsibilities

• Be the go-to expert for all employee relations matters, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, legally compliant, and people-centred advisory services.
• Collaborate closely with managers, providing guidance, coaching, and training to navigate complex cases with confidence and fairness.
• Lead and develop our Employee Relations advisory team, cultivating a high-performing, customer-focused culture where service excellence is paramount.
• Utilise insights from case trends and data to identify opportunities for improvement, influence policy updates, and champion initiatives that enhance the employee experience.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and collaborate with the wider people team to execute our people strategy and achieve our vision.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience managing complex employee relations casework, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, and capability issues.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and the ability to apply it effectively in practical situations.
• Experience in a shared services or decentralised HR environment.
• Previous experience leading or supervising a team.
• A proven track record in supporting change programmes, such as TUPE transfers or restructures.
• Experience in reviewing and improving HR policies and guidance materials.
• A CIPD Level 7 in People Management (or working towards it).
