A local government authority in Thrapston seeks an Emergency Planning Officer to enhance emergency preparedness. The candidate will support hazard assessments, manage incident plans, and work with various stakeholders. About The Role. This role is part of the Emergency Planning Team. The team works to make North Northamptonshire Council ready for emergencies by assessing hazards and threats, then making plans and procedures to respond. The role contributes to making North Northamptonshire prepared for emergencies by working with the authority, communities and other responders for the benefit of residents. The role is a full-time permanent contract, 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday. After a period of training, you will join an on-call rota that provides 24/7 cover for the council to respond to emergencies that can happen at any time. The role is predominantly office-based, but flexibility and the willingness to work unsocial hours as required are expected. Emergencies can happen at any time, so the successful candidate will be flexible and willing to meet the demands of emergency response and residents’ needs. You must be willing to take part in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours cover. The role may involve challenging subjects and requires personal resilience. Candidates should have sound knowledge of civil protection and emergency management arrangements in the UK and how local responders can deliver them. They should be keen problem solvers, able to produce creative and pragmatic solutions to resilience challenges, and comfortable using basic IT applications and maps to communicate geographic information.
