Job summary

Job description

The post holder will autonomously undertake assessment and treatment of patients in the Urgent Care who may present with minor illnesses or injuries, establishing a clinical diagnosis, providing treatment, and arranging appropriate discharge. Comprehensive patient records will be maintained in line with NMC and HCPC standards, Trust policies, and the electronic patient records system.

Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment and treatment of patients with minor illnesses or injuries in Urgent Care.
  • Determine a clinical diagnosis and manage treatment and appropriate discharge.
  • Maintain comprehensive patient records in accordance with NMC, HCPC, Trust policies and the electronic patient records system.
  • Refer appropriately to senior teams, medical teams and multi‑disciplinary professionals where a second opinion is required.
  • Work within local protocols, guidelines, and PGDs (Patient Group Directives).
  • Work flexibly, including a shift pattern that covers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship (where appropriately trained) to junior practitioners.
  • Recognise and work within one’s own competence and professional code of conduct as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and other Health Care Professions (HCPC).
  • Be an effective role model and expert resource for nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
