Emergency Department Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse

We are looking for an experienced Emergency Nurse and Paediatric Nurse with post registration experience as a Band 5 in Emergency Care for this Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse role in the Princess of Wales Hospital.

This individual will have a clear track record of enthusiasm, drive, and a commitment to improving the experience of people using our services and show that they have worked well as a whole team within the Emergency department which includes both adult and paediatric areas.

The post holder will support the current Emergency Department Senior Nurse and the Band 7 Sisters/Charge Nurses in ensuring the highest standard of nursing care is provided, monitored and evaluated.

You will be someone who has change management skills and demonstrates a high level of commitment to seeing plans through within agreed timescales.

You will be a team player and have the skills to rapidly develop effective leadership of an established nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a clinical expert and will be regularly in charge of specific areas within the Emergency department and on occasions in charge of the whole department in the absence of the band 7 Senior sister. The post holder will have to work closely with the senior nurse and consultant colleagues to ensure the safety and comfort for our patients.

Your duties may include being responsible for tasks such as on duty, managing a small group of staff, attending meetings and handling complaints along with completion of PDR's and sickness management.

It is essential you have a special interest that you would like to carry forward as a project to ensure that we are constantly improving.

You must possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to form productive professional relationships with colleagues.

The Health Board currently operates a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30 minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. Person Specification
  • Welsh language speaking/listening skills at a Level 3/B2 or above
Experience
  • Significant band 5 or above experience in emergency care
