Ecologist / Senior Ecologist

Location: Cambridgeshire / South East (Hybrid working)

Salary: Dependant on Level of Experience

Summary

The UK's leading highway maintenance contractor, utilizing the latest innovations to create effective solutions, offers a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes. We are looking for ecologists and Senior Ecologists to develop our in-house ecology team, which is part of an expanding group of environmental specialists.

We also welcome applicants at Principal Ecologist level.

Role

You will deliver a range of consultancy services both internally and externally to manage ecological constraints and opportunities effectively. You will collaborate with design, construction, and operational teams. Your responsibilities will include habitat and species surveys, ECoW requirements, impact assessments, licensing & mitigation, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

You will engage in both fieldwork and desk-based activities across various contracts, gaining exposure to a wide variety of protected species.

What you'll bring

  • Experience in field surveys and reporting, including UK Habitat Classification assessment, BNG condition assessment, and protected species surveys
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing priorities and expectations through effective communication
  • Sound knowledge of ecological principles, legislation, policy, and guidance
  • Willingness to work from office locations regularly, travel across the UK, and stay away from home when required
  • Valid UK driving licence
