About The Role: DT Technician

This is a vital, hands‑on role supporting the Design and Technology department in a specialist technical learning environment, starting this January. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient running of the department's practical facilities. The technician will be an essential resource for both teaching staff and students, making a direct and tangible impact on the quality of education delivered across resistant materials, systems and control, and potentially food and textiles.

Requirements
  • Prior practical experience working in a workshop, manufacturing, or DT Technician role.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, including COSHH and risk assessment procedures relevant to a D&T setting.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness to apply for one)

Key Responsibilities
  • Resource Preparation: Timely setting up and clearing away of materials, tools, and equipment for all practical D&T lessons.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conducting regular checks, servicing, and cleaning of all departmental machinery and hand tools.
  • H&S Compliance: Enforcing departmental Health and Safety policies and ensuring safe working practices are observed by all users.
  • Stock Control: Monitoring, ordering, and managing stock levels of all consumables and materials within budget.
  • Technical Support: Providing in‑class assistance, advice, and demonstrations to students and teaching staff.
  • Workshop Organisation: Maintaining the cleanliness, security, and orderly state of workshops, prep rooms, and storage areas.
  • CAD/CAM Management: Operating, maintaining, and providing support for specialist digital manufacturing equipment.
  • Liaison: Communicating effectively with external suppliers, maintenance contractors, and the Head of Department.
  • Risk Documentation: Assisting with the creation and updating of departmental risk assessments.
  • Display & Exhibition: Supporting the creation of engaging departmental displays of student work and resources.
