Design Technology Technician (Part Time) - Independent School

Location: Essex (easily accessible through the Elizabeth Line)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Fixed-term contract, 5th January to 26th June 2026.

Timetable: Part Time, Term-Time Only (22.5 hours per week)

Salary: £12,858 (FTE £27,522)

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Design Technology Technician to join a well‑resourced independent school in Essex from November 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to support a thriving Design Technology Department within a forward‑thinking and welcoming school community.

Working closely with the Head of Department and teaching staff, the successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting practical lessons, maintaining workshop machinery, preparing resources, and contributing to the smooth running and ongoing development of the DT Department.

This is a part‑time, term‑time‑only position (Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, 8.00am‑4.15pm), with the requirement to attend INSET days and up to three Saturdays or equivalent per year.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparing materials, tools and equipment for lessons
  • Maintaining machinery, tools and LEV systems in line with Health & Safety regulations
  • Updating risk assessments, COSHH records and conducting regular safety checks
  • Supporting pupils individually or in small groups during practical tasks
  • Assisting with the production of teaching aids, project materials and storage systems
  • Monitoring and ordering stock, maintaining accurate records and managing consumables
  • Preparing and maintaining high-quality displays of pupil work
  • Liaising with maintenance staff and ensuring classrooms are left in good order daily
  • Attending department meetings and contributing to department development
Person Specification:
  • Strong knowledge of Design & Technology and workshop machinery
  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems or workshop equipment (training can be provided)
  • DATA Health & Safety training is advantageous
