The role

As a Driver, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of our Transport Services team, ensuring RAF personnel, equipment, and vehicles get to the right place at the right time. This is more than just driving — it’s about supporting national defence and contributing to a mission that matters. You’ll operate a wide range of vehicles, from passenger cars and minibuses to large goods vehicles, making every journey count.

Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for:

  • Driving and ensuring vehicles are fit for purpose, maintained, and clean
  • Updating documentation before and after journeys
  • Reporting defects promptly and accurately
  • Carrying out all driving tasks as requested, including transporting senior stakeholders
  • Supporting the team with safe and efficient transport operations.

This is a full-time, permanent role, based on site at RAF Halton. You’ll work an average of 39 hours per week on a shift basis:

Earlies: 06:00–13:30 (Mon–Fri)

Lates: 13:00–20:30 (Mon–Fri)

Days: 07:30–16:30 (Mon–Thurs), 07:30–15:30 (Fri)

Weekend Duty: One in every 8 weeks (06:30–18:30)

Essential experience of the Driver
  • Experience operating similar vehicles

  • Familiarity with driving documentation such as Tachograph
  • Ability to work flexibly within a shift-based environment
Qualifications for the Driver
  • Current and valid UK Category D Driving Licence
  • Digital tachograph card.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain SC security clearance for this role.
