Drainage Engineer — Manchester

Penguin Recruitment is currently supporting a leading civil and environmental consultancy with an exciting opportunity for a skilled Drainage Engineer to join their dynamic water services team in Manchester. This permanent role offers a competitive salary, flexible working arrangements, and the chance to work on a diverse range of drainage and flood risk projects across both public and private sector clients.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver drainage projects from inception through to detailed design, producing compliant strategies, plans, and technical drawings.
  • Contribute to SuDS design, surface water, and foul system solutions, supporting planning applications and regulatory approvals.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, building strong client relationships and supporting staff development.
  • Engage in innovative flood risk and drainage projects, supporting product development and emerging market initiatives.
  • Mentor junior staff and share expertise across the team.
Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Environmental Science.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in drainage design, including SuDS, pumping station design, and flood risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with GIS (QGIS) is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, project management skills, and a proactive, client-focused approach.
  • Membership of a professional body and aspiration toward chartered status is desirable.
