Hours: 37.5 hours per week over 7 days, including weekends and bank holidays.

We are looking for a Donation and Distribution Centre Manager to help others and make a positive impact on our community. Our retail outlets are a vital part of what we do, generating essential income that directly supports the hospice. With 15 retail shops across North Derbyshire, dedicated furniture and donation centres, clearance shops and cafés, and online sales platforms, we operate a dynamic, fast‑paced operation that makes a real difference every day.

Key responsibilities
  • Income Generation & Stock Management – Manage the timely and efficient distribution of donated and new stock to retail shops and online platforms, prioritising high‑value items to maximise income.
  • Team Leadership & Development – Lead, motivate and develop a diverse team of staff and volunteers. Foster an inclusive culture, oversee recruitment, training, performance management and rota planning.
  • Customer Experience – Act as an ambassador for Ashgate Hospice, creating a welcoming environment for donors, customers and visitors that reflects our values and commitment to compassionate care.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance – Ensure all donation centre activities comply with health and safety legislation and organisational policies, provide training and promote safe working practices.
  • Gift Aid & Fundraising Support – Manage the Gift Aid process accurately to maximize income from eligible donations and collaborate with the Fundraising team to lead donation drive initiatives.
  • Complete a DBS check as part of the pre‑employment process.
Essential skills and experience
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and delegate.
  • Strong people‑management and leadership skills – proven ability to motivate staff and volunteers to achieve outstanding results.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers and external partners.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Numeracy skills for budgeting, procedures and profitability control.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Experience in retail or a charity environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and a commitment to a safe, compliant workplace.
