Job summary

A leading facilities management company is seeking a Domestic Team Leader at Queens Hospital. This role involves leading a team to maintain cleanliness, supervising cleaning standards, and managing staff rotas. Domestic Team Leader – Queens Hospital, RM7 0AG

Hours: 27 hours per week • Pay: £15.22 per hour • Contract: 6‑month fixed‑term contract • Shifts: Rotating – 3 nights per week

About the Role

As a Domestic Team Leader at Sodexo’s Domestic Services Team at Queens Hospital, you’ll lead a team of Domestic Assistants to maintain a clean, safe, and caring environment for patients, staff, and visitors. You will manage a high‑quality, cost‑effective, proactive cleaning service that meets the needs of the hospital and aligns with Sodexo and NHS Trust standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support the domestic cleaning team to deliver excellent standards across wards and departments.
  • Monitor cleaning performance and hygiene standards, ensuring full compliance with national and Trust requirements.
  • Prepare staff rotas, allocate work, and prioritise urgent cleaning requests.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and quality control checks, taking action where improvements are needed.
  • Manage stock, equipment, and consumables efficiently within budget.
  • Provide training, coaching, and ongoing support to ensure team members are confident and competent.
  • Manage sickness, absence, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, fire, and infection prevention policies at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records, timesheets, and other documentation.
  • Lead by example with professionalism, empathy, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
About You

We’re looking for a confident, organised individual with strong leadership skills and a passion for maintaining a clean and safe healthcare environment.

Essential skills and experience
  • Experience supervising or managing a cleaning/domestic team, ideally in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention, COSHH, and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to train, motivate, and develop team members.
  • Financial awareness and understanding of managing costs and resources.
  • Flexibility to work rotating night shifts and adapt to changing priorities.
Desirable
  • Manual Handling training.
  • Experience delivering staff training using company guidelines.
  • Understanding of NHS cleaning policies and standards.
  • NVQ or equivalent qualification in Cleaning or Team Leadership.
