Overview

Black Country Women's Aid (BCWA) is an established charity working across the Black Country and wider West Midlands, providing accommodation and community support services to victims of domestic abuse, sexual abuse and human trafficking. Services include advocacy, civil remedies, support in court, individual and group support and access to a range of therapeutic interventions. All services are client and needs-led.

Community Services Directorate

Within this directorate, the following vital services are delivered: BCWA Community Domestic Abuse Support Services (Sandwell, Walsall and Dudley); Black Country IRIS (primary care) educator and advocacy service; Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Services (Black Country); Black Country Sexual Abuse Forum; Black Country Counselling Service; Domestic and sexual abuse Children and Young Person's service (Black Country); West Midlands Stalking Service; Ask Marc (Male abuse referral centre).

This position is located within the Community Domestic Violence and Abuse Support Service. The BCWA Community Domestic Violence and Abuse Support Service supports victims of domestic violence and abuse in Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall through a range of contracted/commissioning arrangements. The service works in partnership with other services within BCWA and key agencies to assess risk and provide tailored support plans for service users. Our integrated approach provides effective, holistic support for survivors of abuse using a trauma-informed approach.

The team: Dudley Council Children's Social Care are implementing the nationally recognised Family Safeguarding approach to working with whole families to support child protection arrangements. Family Safeguarding Teams are multi-disciplinary and include professionals from children's social care, probation services, mental health and domestic abuse. The Family Saf safeguarding approach presents a unique opportunity for multi-disciplinary teams to support whole families with all aspects of delivery, reflecting a family focus approach that prioritises safeguarding for children, young people and adults. Black Country Women's Aid service will second Domestic Abuse Victim support to parents/carers of Young People who are open to a Family Saf safeguarding intervention. The role will be based within the Family Saf safeguarding teams and work as part of the multi-disciplinary service to improve outcomes for families. The aim of the roles is to reduce the impact of Domestic Abuse in parents whose children are being supported through a Family Safeguarding intervention by providing evidence-based outcomes. Collaborative practices between Dudley Council & Black Country Women's Aid will be enhanced through shared learning & training and developing a best practice model within the service.

Job Role

Job Title: Domestic Abuse Practitioner (maternity cover)

Position available: 1 part-time position - 12 months maternity cover (22.5 hours - days negotiable), based in Dudley

Salary: £14,586.02 (unqualified) - £17,483.45 (qualified) pro rata, £24,310.04 (unqualified) - £29,139.08 (qualified) FTE

We are looking for someone with experience of supporting victims/survivors of domestic abuse, managing a caseload and understanding the principles of safeguarding children and adults. The post holder will have a good understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and how this can affect victims.

The Role

The Domestic Abuse Practitioner will work within the family safeguarding team, focusing on providing support to victims of domestic abuse who have been referred from Childrens services specifically those on child in need and child protection plans.
