Job description
Overview

Lead the Future of Public Health in One of England’s Most Unique Counties.

Norfolk is a county like no other — a stunning blend of coastal charm, rural beauty, and vibrant urban life. With a population of over 920,000 and a landscape that draws visitors year-round, Norfolk offers a truly special place to live and work.

We’re looking for an experienced senior public health professional to become our next Director of Public Health— someone with the vision, drive, and expertise to shape a healthier future for our residents and visitors alike.

Make a Real Impact

This is your opportunity to lead transformative change. You’ll spearhead efforts to tackle our most pressing health inequalities, protect our communities from public health threats, and champion wellbeing across the county. Working at the heart of our system, you’ll collaborate with and further build our strong relationships and integrated, innovative care models within adults’ and children’s services, and with partners across the NHS, and voluntary sector. Most importantly, you’ll lead an asset-based community development approach at place and neighbourhood geography that places our communities and residents at the heart of everything we do, working in partnership to deliver real, measurable outcomes.

A Strategic Role with Influence

Reporting directly to our new Executive Director of Adult Social Services (DASS), and with direct access to our Chief Executive, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping public health strategy at the highest level. You’ll advise elected members, senior leaders, and Cabinet, and lead a substantial and talented team committed to making Norfolk a healthier, fairer place for all.

Why Norfolk, Why Now?

We’re proud of our Health and Wellbeing Board and our ambitious Integrated Care Partnership. This is a great time to join us in Norfolk and a fantastic opportunity to lead across a huge system. You’ll find a supportive, forward-thinking environment where your leadership can thrive and where your ideas count.

You must
  • Be a registered GMC, GDC, or UKPHR public health specialist with substantial experience in all areas of public health practice and have a deep understanding of public health policy and best practice at both national and local levels.
  • As a highly visible system leader, you’ll want to spend the majority of your week working on site or within the community and your salary will be reflective of your level of experience.

Take the next step in your career and make your mark as Norfolk’s Director of Public Health, helping to create a healthier future for our communities.
