At Faststream Recruitment , we are delighted to be working in exclusive partnership with the globally renowned ship management company Northern Marine Management , who are currently looking to appoint a Director, HSEQ .

This is a pivotal and highly respected leadership role, with responsibility for overseeing health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across a technically advanced and globally operating fleet. The position also includes statutory functions as Designated Person Ashore (DPA), Company Security Officer (CSO), and Emergency Response Manager (ERM) .

The Role – Director, HSEQ

As Director, HSEQ, you will :
  • Lead and continuously improve the company’s HSEQ systems, ensuring compliance with all international maritime regulations (ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC).
  • Act as Designated Person Ashore (DPA) – maintaining the Safety Management System (SMS) and acting as liaison between ship and shore.
  • Fulfil duties as Company Security Officer (CSO) – ensuring ISPS compliance and supporting security threat assessments.
  • Take the lead on Emergency Response Management (ERM) – ensuring readiness and leading incident response efforts across the fleet.
  • Inspire, mentor and develop a high-performing HSEQ team while embedding a culture of continuous improvement, risk awareness, and safety excellence.
  • Drive environmental performance and initiatives to support decarbonisation and regulatory compliance.
Candidate Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years of maritime industry experience , including 5+ years in senior HSEQ, DPA or CSO roles .
  • Seagoing experience as a Master Mariner or Chief Engineer is preferred, but not essential.
  • A deep understanding of international maritime regulations , emergency response, and risk management.
  • Proven leadership and people development experience with a passion for continuous improvement and driving safety culture.
  • Experience coordinating with regulatory authorities, flag states, port authorities, and P&I clubs.
  • Strong ability to influence across departments and lead during high-pressure, high-impact situations.
