Digital Risk Consultant (Technical)

The postholder will be responsible for operational delivery of specialist and technical digital assurance services to NHS and non-NHS organisations, to deliver internal audit's statutory responsibility to independently and objectively review, evaluate and report on the adequacy of client's systems of digital controls.

To provide cyber security and other technical digital risk management advice and guidance to clients and colleagues.

TheDigital Risk Consultant will support the Associate Director of Digital Audit and Assurance Services and wider ASW Assurance Management Team in the delivery, leadership and development of the digital audit and assurance service, including research and development of enhanced tools and methodology, providing an added value, future proofed and innovative service in line with the ASW Assurance Strategy.

The postholder will be appropriately qualified and experienced in complex digital systems and risks, to provide support, guidance and assurance to clients in a period of significant digital transformation.

Main duties of the job

Manage delivery of end-to-end digital audits, including highly complex, highly technical, and highly sensitive assignment topics, ensuring that suitable assurances are given. Audit assignments cover any aspect of digital activity and information governance, from high level strategic, governance and management aspects via procurement, operational and service aspects and applications (clinical, financial etc.) to in depth technical reviews involving networks, hardware and software and digital projects.

Delivering a range of other digital audit services including consultancy, project assurance, training and specialist projects.

Advising Directors, Senior Managers and other client staff on highly complex issues, such as digital risk management and assurance frameworks.

Anticipating and responding to a broad range of requests for advice and assistance and queries from senior client staff and audit staff on a range of highly specialist, sensitive and complex issues.

Supervision of staff in the digital function and supporting with work scheduling, coaching, individual and team training.

Delivering elements of the strategic and operational development and marketing of new service and products, as directed by the Associate Director of Digital Audit and Assurance Services.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Possess (at least one) specialised digital/IT professional qualification (e.g. CISA)
  • In depth specialist knowledge of digital systems and risk management acquired through degree or equivalent level plus knowledge.
Knowledge
  • Detailed, demonstrable and expert specialist knowledge and delivery of digital and non-digital audits, or a senior role in digital delivery in large organisations.
  • A mature understanding of NHS and public sector structures, policy, functions, and digital systems together with the aptitude to build on that knowledge.
Experience
  • Proven experience in assessing and reporting on risks related to cyber security, cloud adoption, digital service delivery, system change, access management, and third-party dependencies.
  • Familiarity with identifying risks across the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and digital transformation programmes.
Experience
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience of preparing reports for Boards and Committees to a high standard.
