Dietetic Support Worker

Are you caring and compassionate, an enthusiastic learner and interested in a career in diet and nutrition?

Would you like to work with our community dietetics service based at the Minerva Health centre? You would be involved with nutritional care of patients requiring artificial feeding in the community. This could include both patients on nutritional support and those who are fed by feeding tubes. You will also support the administration of the home tube feeding service so that patients have the appropriate feeding equipment/consumables and have regular supplies of these products.

Main duties of the job

Working within a defined scope of practice, key aspects of this role will include:

  • Assessing nutritional needs of non-complex adult patients with a range of medical conditions, requiring oral nutrition support and/or home enteral tube feeding.
  • Devising programmes of dietetic care under supervision, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of dietary intervention and providing regular feedback to the supervising Registered Dietitian.
  • Supporting the team with ongoing administrative management of patients on caseload, including liaising with other Registered Dietitians, Dietetic support staff, other community health care professionals and administrative staff, home enteral feeding companies, and nursing homes and carers.
  • Data entry regarding product orders and assisting with the supply of dietetic products and consumables to patients in their own homes and working with the enteral feeding companies.

Full training will be provided but candidates must have a relevant qualification and must be able to demonstrate nutrition knowledge as well as excellent communication and organisational skills.

Qualifications & Education
  • Basic general education: GCSE or equivalent Mathematics and English equivalent to grade C or above.
  • NVQ level 3 in care or equivalent care qualification (within 18 months of start date).
  • Commitment to continued professional development.

  • Associate Member of the British Dietetic Association.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Previous experience of working in an acute NHS or community NHS setting.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Awareness of nutrition products and equipment for home enteral tube feeding.
  • Previous experience in a dietetic support role.
