Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist
Band 7, Permanent – Full or part time positions available.
Overview
An experienced and motivated diabetes specialist podiatrist is needed to join the established team at LUHFT, based at the Royal site. You will work closely with the multi‑disciplinary team (MDT) to manage complex diabetic and vascular foot complications and contribute to excellence in diabetes foot care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver care in diabetes consultant‑led foot clinics.
- Participate in the MDT foot clinic involving diabetes, orthopaedic and vascular consultants, podiatry technicians, orthotists, DSNs and vascular specialist nurses.
- Provide specialist care in the high‑risk podiatry clinic.
- Perform toenail surgery and manage acute/chronic wounds.
- Lead multidisciplinary diabetes teaching sessions.
- Deliver and develop inpatient diabetic foot care.
- Assess, diagnose and manage patients with diabetic foot problems, ensuring maximum independence and mobility.
- Provide advice, support and training to colleagues, primary‑care partners and students regarding foot‑related complications.
- Coordinate seamless referral pathways and liaise with relevant professionals for immediate treatment and intervention.
- Lead the development of the diabetic foot service, ensuring governance and reporting to therapy and diabetes leads.
- Identify and pursue personal training and development opportunities using allocated non‑clinical time.
- Contribute to relevant research and audit to evaluate and improve the service.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant postgraduate knowledge of the diabetic foot – MSc or equivalent degree.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing high‑risk diabetic foot patients.
- Significant clinical skills and experience at a senior level in the management of acute and chronic diabetic foot problems.
- Good working knowledge in health education and the ability to provide training.
- Strong physical skills, precision hand/eye coordination, and adept with debridement techniques for neuropathic and ischemic wounds.
- Capability to move and handle patients who may be immobile, wheelchair or bed‑bound, often in difficult conditions.
- Experience supervising students or junior staff and participation in professional development programmes.
- Commitment to professional practice, continuous learning and promoting good practice within and beyond the Trust.
