Job description
Overview

This is a stand‑alone FY2 equivalent post created because of an unexpected FY2 rotational vacancy. It is particularly suitable for a doctor seeking to complete their Foundation training and facilitate the achievements required for a CREST form to enter Core Training in Medicine or for those seeking further experience in Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus. The role is 4 months long with the possibility of extension to 8 or 12 months. It is based on the Endocrinology & Diabetes Inpatient Ward and includes speciality outpatient clinics. The post may close early if sufficient applications are received.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop clinical knowledge across the general internal medicine curriculum.
  • Acquire specialist knowledge in general endocrinology & diabetes mellitus management in the acute and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in governance activities, including mortality reviews, QIPs, departmental and trust‑wide educational activities.
  • Practice a range of procedures and skills relevant to endocrinology and diabetes care.
Training and Development

Your training will mirror that given to doctors in formal training programmes. You will be allocated a Consultant Supervisor to support your career development. Previous clinical fellows have progressed to training across a spectrum of programmes, including IMT and GP training.

Working Hours

Daily hours are 0900 – 1700 with no on‑calls.

Team and Ward

The post is based in a 25‑bed ward on the 5th floor, shared equally between the Endocrinology & Diabetes and the Gastroenterology teams. The ward is staffed by 1 Consultant, 1 Registrar, 2 FY1s, and 1 GP trainee with daily senior ward rounds. Wider team staffing includes highly trained nursing, nursing assistants, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, diabetes and endocrinology specialist nursing, podiatry, tissue viability, MDT team, pharmacy and a full complement of support staff.

  • Ensure you are familiar and comply with the London Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Pan‑London Procedures.
  • Ensure you are familiar and comply with local protocols and systems for information sharing.
  • Know the appropriate contact numbers and required reporting lines.
  • Participate in required training and supervision.
  • Comply with required professional boundaries and codes of conduct.
