Senior DevOps Engineer - Hybrid in Belfast | Full-time
Our client, a global technology organisation operating large-scale, customer-facing platforms, is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to help shape the next phase of its cloud and platform evolution. This role sits within an international DevOps function and works closely with engineering, product, and support teams to improve how systems are built, deployed, and operated.
This is a senior, hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys tackling complex technical challenges, influencing platform direction, and supporting the growth of other engineers. You’ll play a key role in improving reliability, scaling cloud environments, and guiding the transition from legacy deployments to modern, cloud-native solutions.
Responsibilities
- Partner with engineering and product teams to design cloud infrastructure that is resilient, secure, and built to scale
- Lead or significantly contribute to initiatives that transition legacy or customer-managed systems into AWS-based platforms
- Build and evolve infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code practices
- Review and influence system architecture with a focus on stability, performance, and efficient use of resources
- Improve build, deployment, and release workflows to support faster and safer delivery
- Enhance operational insight through monitoring, logging, and tracing, and play an active role in incident response
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers
- Contribute to engineering standards, design discussions, and technical documentation
- Help align DevOps tools and operating models across multiple teams within the wider organisation
Core Requirements
- Degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience
- Several years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform-focused engineering roles
- Strong knowledge of Linux environments, networking concepts, and distributed systems
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-native services
- Proven experience using infrastructure-as-code tools to manage production environments
- Background designing systems that support growth, fault tolerance, and multi-environment deployments
- Experience operating container-based workloads in production
- Solid understanding of CI / CD automation and modern delivery practices
- Ability to script or program in one or more common languages
- Strong communication skills and confidence working across disciplines
Additional Experience That’s a Plus
- Supporting Java-based applications in production environments
- Using configuration management or automation tooling
- Exposure to edge, DNS, or CDN platforms
- Experience working with relational databases in live systems
- Leading or contributing to cloud migration projects
- Familiarity with SaaS or multi-tenant architectures
- Hands-on use of observability and monitoring platforms
- Deeper knowledge of cloud networking patterns
- Experience in sports, leisure, or booking-related technology
