Job Description
A leading trading firm in the commodities and energy markets is hiring for a Development Manager to lead a newly formed engineering team, focused on building greenfield platforms to support complex energy trading workflows across power, gas, emissions, and other asset classes.
This is a high-impact leadership role—ideal for someone with strong technical roots, proven delivery experience, and a deep understanding of the energy trading lifecycle.
What You\'ll Be Doing
Your main focus will be a greenfield technology platform built to support the complexities of physical and financial commodities trading, including structured products, cross-border flows, and volatile market conditions.
You’ll take full ownership of architecture, delivery, and stakeholder alignment, working closely with Front Office, Risk, and Product teams to ensure the platform delivers scalable, mission-critical capabilities.
There’s also scope to lead the build of a next-generation trading platform—developed in collaboration with Quants and commercial teams—designed to handle real-time position management, pricing, and decision-support tooling.
Team Scope
You’ll lead a cross-functional engineering team of ~12 developers
Core stack: C# .NET (plus React / Node.js on the front end)
Oversight of tactical Python development and data integration
Strong emphasis on technical architecture, modern engineering practices, and internal tooling strategy
This is a technical leadership role (not hands-on coding) but requires deep technical fluency
What We\'re Looking For
Proven experience delivering technology solutions within commodities and energy trading environments—across power, gas, emissions, LNG, or similar
Strong background in software engineering, ideally in C# .NET and modern enterprise platforms
Deep understanding of energy trading workflows, pricing flows, and market structure
Leadership experience—line management, agile delivery oversight, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement
Clear and confident communicator—able to interface with Quants, Front Office, and senior tech leadership
Remuneration & Benefits
Base salary up to £130,000
Bonus up to 30%+
Hybrid working model—2–3 days/week in London office
Career progression in a growing, well-funded trading firm
