Job description

Design & Technology Teacher (Full Time, January Start)

Location : South Gloucestershire (on the outskirts of Bristol)

Contract : Full-time, ongoing

Salary : Paid to scale (MPS / UPS, depending on experience)

Requirements : UK QTS, with a specialism or strong interest in Engineering / Design & Technology

We’re working with a large, mixed secondary school that values community, equity and ambition. They are looking for a committed DT / Engineering specialist to join the department from January.

About the school

The school is part of a larger trust and has recently been rated “Good” in all Ofsted categories : quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and post-16 provision.

Their guiding values centre around COMMUNITY, EQUITY and AMBITION.

They’re committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where all students, regardless of background or starting point, are supported to succeed academically, socially and personally.

The school curriculum is broad and balanced, offering all students exposure to a wide variety of subjects, including design and technology, to help them discover their passions and prepare for future pathways.

As the DT / Engineering-specialist teacher you will :
  • Deliver Design & Technology (and associated engineering / technical) lessons across Key Stage 3, and / or GCSE-level D&T (depending on timetable and qualifications)
  • Plan, deliver and mark lessons, assessments and practical coursework — helping students to build skills in design thinking, materials, tools / techniques, problem-solving and technical understanding
  • Work with the department to maintain a rich, well-resourced workshop or Design & Technology facilities (or support their ongoing development)
  • Contribute to broader department planning, support student progress, and collaborate with colleagues to foster a consistent, high-quality learning experience
They’re looking for a teacher who :
  • Has UK QTS and specialises (or has strong technical competence) in Engineering / Design & Technology
  • Can teach across KS3 and KS4, adapting learning for mixed-ability classes, combining theory and hands‑on practical work
  • Is organised, reliable, and comfortable planning and delivering technical, practical lessons as well as marking written work
  • Believes in the school’s values — community, equity and ambition — and is committed to supporting all students to reach their potential
  • Is ready to work collaboratively within a supportive department and wider school community
Why work through Protocol Education?
  • Salary paid to scale, commensurate with experience
  • Weekly PAYE pay — straightforward and reliable
  • Access to our CPD resources and support (for teaching and classroom management)
  • A dedicated consultant who supports you from registration through to placement and beyond
  • Opportunity to work in a large, well‑resourced school where DT / Engineering has space to flourish

If you have a passion for design, technology and engineering education — and you want a stable, supportive school environment where you can make a real difference — this is an excellent opportunity.
