Freelance Design Manager

Location: London Kings Cross

Day Rate: £430-£480-a-day

Duration: 6 - 24 months

The Role

An exciting opportunity as one of UK's largest main contractors is looking to recruit a Design Manager to work on a freelance basis. You will be leading a Grade two listed custodial project from inception through to completion, previous experience working on custodial or heritage projects would be preferred but not essential.

Duties
  • Lead the Design Management process
  • Take the project from preconstruction phase to completion
  • Oversee verification, validation and certification of designs, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations & Employer's Requirements (ERs)
  • Take design meetings and lead these with architects and consultants
  • Ensure delivery of design documentation in line with the design and submissions programme
  • Monitor and "police" the document control system
  • Liaise with internal and external construction and design staff
  • Utilise lean construction techniques to save money, reduce waste & optimise construction
  • Support the implementation of the BIM protocols, including teamwork and collaboration and the management and sharing of data relating to BIM models
Candidate experience
  • The successful candidate will have worked for a main contractor previously ideally on custodial or heritage projects
  • Ideally they should have a degree in architecture, Construction management or related discipline
  • Proven experience on refurbishment projects is essential
  • Proven experience of leading the design from preconstruction to completion is essential
