What you’ll be doing
  • Lead a team of engineers to deliver cost-effective solutions while meeting regulatory financial allowances.
  • Own the production of Cable Design policy and standard design solutions across SPT.
  • Identify engineering efficiencies and implement them into standard solutions.
  • Produce guidance documents for external contractors and customers on designing and building SPT assets.
  • Provide technical support for framework contracts to deliver the masterplan of projects.
  • Collaborate across functions to achieve successful change outcomes.
  • Embed HSEQ policies within all proposed and delivered engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all SPT engineering policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Conduct project audits to ensure compliance.
  • Support engineering requirements from design through construction and record submission.
  • Oversee and deliver basic and detailed engineering, specifications, and designs for cable systems.
  • Assess tender submissions and provide technical recommendations.
  • Define cable system requirements for SCA, Project Technical Specifications, and BETTA documentation.
  • Coordinate preparation/review of cable drawings and specifications for construction/procurement.
  • Resolve engineering problems using appropriate methodologies and innovative approaches.
  • Drive continuous improvement through proactive initiatives.
  • Define engineering scope during the pre‑engineering phase.
  • Advise on new business requirements and support their identification.
  • Ensure training, coaching, and mentoring to develop team capability.
What you’ll bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with relevant experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Technical oversight and management experience, including cable design for large electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong people and communication skills to build effective relationships.
  • Ability to implement and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in design.
  • Experience introducing new technologies and solutions to reduce project costs and carbon footprint.
  • Proven knowledge of CDM regulations and designer risk assessment.
  • Experience using BIM for Transmission cable system design.
  • In‑depth understanding of cable systems and accessories for transmission networks, including operation and maintenance.
  • Demonstrable cable system design experience.
Minimum requirements
  • Engineering qualification (BSc/BEng) and/or postgraduate qualification (MBA, MSc) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in electrical infrastructure design and detailed cable engineering.
  • People management experience.
