Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop a variety of products including vehicle conversions and trailer systems from concept through to production‑ready designs.
- Ensure all product designs comply with relevant transportation regulations and industry standards.
- Collaborate with sales, purchasing, subcontractors and production teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost‑effective and meet customer requirements.
- Manage assigned design projects ensuring timely completion and coordination of resources.
- Provide technical support by preparing detailed drawings for customer quotations and bespoke client needs.
- Proactively identify and solve design and manufacturing challenges.
- Maintain technical documentation including CAD drawings, design specifications and compliance records.
- Visit production sites as necessary to support design implementation and problem‑solving.
Person Specification
- Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or related field.
- Experience in vehicle conversion or trailer design preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant safety compliance regulations and industry standards.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or similar.
- Strong communication skills for liaising with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Education
A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. This is usually the standard qualification for design engineering technicians; an associate degree (HNC/HND) or equivalent qualification in engineering technology or a related field may be required. In specialised industries or more senior roles a master's degree may be preferred or required.
