Job description

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for an enthusiastic and skilled Design and Technology Technician to join a forward-thinking and creative D&T department at a secondary school in Portsmouth.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of high-quality practical lessons and to help inspire the next generation of designers, engineers, and makers.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing and maintaining workshop and classroom materials, supporting teachers in lessons, and ensuring that all practical activities are delivered safely and efficiently.

  • Prepare tools, equipment, and materials for practical D&T lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.

  • Maintain and repair machinery, tools, and resources, ensuring all equipment meets current health and safety standards.

  • Support teachers and students during practical sessions, including demonstrations and project support.

  • Manage stock, order materials, and ensure efficient use of departmental resources.

  • Assist in developing innovative teaching resources and supporting the implementation of new technologies and techniques.

  • Uphold high standards of health and safety at all times, maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Practical, well‑organised, and proactive.

  • Skilled in the use of workshop tools and machinery (e.g. saws, drills, 3D printers, laser cutters).

  • Knowledgeable about health and safety regulations in a workshop or laboratory setting.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Passionate about supporting young people in developing creative and technical skills.

Experience in a school or educational environment is desirable, but applications are welcome from candidates with a background in engineering, design, manufacturing, or related fields.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
