Overview

Are you passionate about your role as a nurse and have a strong drive to provide excellent patient care? Becket ward may have an opportunity for you. We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, hardworking nurse with experience in Acute Medicine and frailty to join our dynamic, friendly team. You will assist in providing high quality care to inpatients with acute medical issues and other frailty related conditions, support the ward sister, and mentor junior nurses. You will also provide support and assessment to student nurses, participate in improvements and change on the ward, investigate incidents, and manage a team, including sickness management and HR processes.

We are a very supportive team and can offer a good orientation along with guidance for future development.

Successful candidates are expected to lead the nursing team and deputise for the ward manager. They should have strong communication skills with the multidisciplinary team and ensure safety and quality are maintained for patients, their families and staff. This will be achieved by supporting the team with skill and enthusiasm.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the nursing team and deputise for the ward manager in their absence.
  • Support the ward sister and mentor junior nurses; provide support and assessment to student nurses.
  • Participate in improvements and changes on the ward; investigate incidents; manage a team including sickness management and HR processes.
  • Lead and participate in audit and ward development projects; support governance and patient safety initiatives.
  • Assist with complex discharge planning and liaise with the extended multidisciplinary team; engage with patients, visitors, and families.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Experience in Acute Medicine and frailty; caring for patients with dementia and other medical conditions (e.g., heart disease, respiratory disease, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes).
  • Experience in complex discharge planning; good communication skills; ability to engage with visitors, loved ones, and families.
  • Ability to lead in the absence of the ward sister; resilient in challenging situations; supportive, inclusive, and innovative in thinking.
  • UK NMC registration preferred; sponsorship not available for Internationally Qualified Nurses at this time.
Role and Governance
  • Promote a positive safety culture; review complaints and governance issues; support junior nurses and role modelling expectations.
  • Undertake audits and support infection control and clinical governance.
  • Lead board rounds and safety huddles as required; ensure smooth discharges and ward flow under pressure.
