A healthcare organization in York is seeking a Deputy Service Manager in General Surgery to offer administrative and operational support. The ideal candidate will manage staff, coordinate clinical activities, and enhance patient care. This position requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills and is fundamental in ensuring effective surgical operations.
We have an exciting opportunity in our Surgery Care Group to recruit a Deputy Service Manager in General Surgery, specifically Colorectal and Upper GI. The department is looking for an enthusiastic and well‑organised individual with an eye for problem solving. The successful candidate will offer administrative and operational support to the department, working closely with the clinical team to ensure we provide a high‑quality service to patients.

Here in General Surgery we are a close‑knit and friendly team looking to appoint a candidate who enjoys building relationships and improving patient care.
The post is based at York Hospital; however, it may be necessary to occasionally work at other Trust sites.

Tasks will include, but are not limited to; admin support, staff management and ensuring the efficiency of RTT and cancer pathways. This may include contacting and booking specific patients, tracking next steps and patients’ likely pathways through the department and working with clinicians/all staff groups to overcome challenges.
In addition, you will be responsible for co‑ordinating the Consultant and Specialist rota and for keeping this up to date with leave requests. You will also assist with the planning of clinics, theatre lists and ensuring effective use of clinical sessions.
You will be required to liaise regularly with Senior Managers in the Care Group, as well as numerous clinicians in the department. You will deputise for the Service Manager where necessary.
The role is fast‑paced, varied and ideal for anyone who enjoys working in a team.
