Deputy Manager and Senior Playworker

Pay: £14.24 per hour

Expected Hours: 20-35 hours per school holiday week, but this may be flexible depending on demand, or may be negotiated to suit candidate’s needs.

Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic childcare professional to support with the running of our children's holiday club. The candidate will act as a Senior Playworker during most shifts, and deputise as manager now and again (expected half a day every other holiday).

Duties as Senior Playworker
  • Support the manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the club, ensuring smooth functioning and high standards of service.
  • Manage and motivate staff, including supporting with training.
  • Maintain health and safety standards in compliance with legal regulations.
  • Ensure cleanliness, organisation, and presentation of all club areas are maintained to a high standard.
  • Provide first aid to children.
  • Welcome and dismiss children using the register.
  • Take part in professional discussions with the deputy safeguarding lead or the designated safeguarding lead on safeguarding issues.
  • Act as key worker for a small number of children.
  • Manage behaviour, lead activities and prepare food.
  • Ensure all staff follow club policies and procedures, and contribute to the development and improvement of practices by making suggestions and through reflections on business operations.
Duties as a deputy manager
  • Act as fire warden during emergency evacuations.
  • Unlock and lock up.
  • Monitor first aid supplies and liaise with the club owner if more stock is needed.
  • Direct and manage staff, ensuring they follow policies and procedures.
  • Deal with low-risk safeguarding concerns with support from the deputy safeguarding lead or the designated safeguarding lead, for example by building relationships with parents and signposting to universal services.
  • Make operational decisions such as what activities to do, when to go outside, etc, depending on different factors.
  • Use the club phone to speak to parents.
  • Managing children’s behaviour and meeting their needs using club policies and procedures, professional judgement, and drawing on the support of other professionals such as staff and other services.
Requirements
  • Full paediatric first aid qualification.
  • Emerging leadership skills with the desire to progress.
  • 2 years’ experience working with children.
  • Commitment to professional development, as the role requires continuous training (paid) which is sometimes done on the job or sometimes at home during term‑time.

Job Types: Permanent or Zero Hours depending on candidate needs.
