Job summary

A leading children's care organization is seeking a Deputy Manager for its residential facility. This role involves supporting the Manager in achieving objectives, managing staff, and ensuring a safe environment for young people aged 8-18. Candidates should have an NVQ 3 in caring for children and young people and supervisory experience in a residential setting. The position requires excellent organizational skills and a full UK driving licence, along with a commitment to safeguarding young people.

Qualifications

  • 12 months experience in a residential setting with young people with challenging behaviour.
  • Understanding of Ofsted framework and relevant legislation.
  • Full UK driving licence is required.

Main Purpose of the Job

To assist the manager in achieving the aims and objectives of the statement of purpose; to deputise in the absence of the registered manager; to support and manage staff so they can meet the needs of the children; to undertake direct work with children as appropriate; to be the responsible person for managing child‑protection concerns and complaints; to work in partnership with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes; to offer supervisions and support to senior staff in line with care quality standards and Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure that each young person has an allocated key worker.
  • Ensure that each staff member is aware of each child's placement plan and their responsibilities.
  • Attend childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes.
  • Undertake direct work with young people and act as an appropriate role model.
  • Assist in developing systems where young people are consulted about the quality of care they receive.
  • Assist the Registered Manager in the implementation of all aspects of the Statement of Purpose.
  • Contribute to devising, implementing, and evaluating changes with front‑line staff.
  • Depute in the absence of the Registered Manager.
  • Support staff on and off the rota to ensure adequate staffing according to the needs of young people.
  • Ensure that resources are allocated appropriately and financial records are accurately maintained.
Qualifications / Experience / Requirements
  • NVQ 3 in caring for Children and Young People (or equivalent).
  • Understanding of Ofsted framework (SCCIF).
  • 12 months experience working in a residential setting with young people with challenging behaviour, including supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the Children Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Team‑building, supervision, and management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to motivate and enthuse staff.
  • Full UK driving licence.
