Job description

Job Title: Dental Veterinary Surgeon

Salary: Up to £70,000 (dependent on experience) £2,500 welcome bonus available

Location: Calder Vets - Dewsbury Hospital

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time - 4 days a week plus one in four Saturdays.

Your role and responsibilities

We are seeking a veterinary surgeon with a strong dental bias to work alongside the team at our 24‑hour Tier III accredited hospital in Dewsbury. The ideal candidate would have, or be studying towards, a dental certification, although consideration will be given to someone with strong experience in the field. The dental suite is well‑equipped with all the kit needed for performing high‑level first‑opinion procedures alongside more advanced surgeries. You will be working alongside a specialised dental nurse and an experienced, driven RVN team.

The rota is four days a week plus one‑in‑four Saturdays. Your days at the hospital will be spent performing dentistry and helping out with other first‑opinion procedures if needed, followed by evening consultations. There is no OOH commitment as the site runs a separate night team. Bank holidays are usually one per year and allocated primarily on a voluntary basis with TOIL.

Salary for the role is up to £70k DOE and skill level. Ideally, we are looking for a full‑time veterinary surgeon but are willing to discuss part‑time arrangements with the right candidate. CPD allowance is £2k per annum as standard, but certification is encouraged and funded by individual discussion.

The clinic has been awarded outstanding in all categories in the Practice Standards Award Scheme. We offer a range of mid‑tier surgeries on site and have a brand‑new CT scanner plus top‑spec ultrasonography and radiography. The clinic is town centre‑based and offers good public transport options but is also surrounded by lovely countryside and good links to cities such as Leeds and Wakefield for anyone considering relocation.

Benefits
  • 5 weeks holiday + bank holidays + Birthday Leave
  • RCVS & VDS fees paid
  • CPD allowance and 4 days each year to attend events plus Linnaeus CPD Programme (including certificate holder level CPD)
  • Extensive free online Linnaeus CPD programme
  • Career progression opportunities
  • Staff discount schemes
  • Life Assurance
  • Enhanced sickness pay
  • Enhanced equal family leave
  • E‑car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Wellness program including:
    • Employee assistance program
    • Eyecare voucher scheme
    • Free annual Flu jab
    • Cycle to work scheme
  • Recruitment referral reward scheme
