The Role

We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our IT & Analytics team to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures that power analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives across the UK Colleges Division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS (Glue, Lambda, Redshift, S3).
  • Integrate data from multiple systems (student management, CRMs, learning platforms, surveys).
  • Clean, transform, and optimise datasets for reporting and modelling.
  • Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance are consistently maintained.
  • Work closely with Data Scientists to provide ready-to-use datasets.
  • Collaborate with BI Developers and Analysts for dashboards and reporting.
  • Design for scalability and performance across multiple colleges.
  • Document processes and workflows for long-term sustainability.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements.
Requirements
About You

You're a hands-on problem solver with a passion for building data systems that scale. With a solid grounding in cloud data engineering and excellent collaboration skills, you can translate complex requirements into reliable, production-ready solutions.

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Expertise in AWS services (Glue, Redshift, Lambda, S3).
  • Strong SQL skills and data warehousing experience.
  • Experience integrating data from multiple systems.
  • Knowledge of governance, security, and quality frameworks.

Desirable:

  • Master's degree or AWS certifications.
  • Experience in higher education or multi-system environments.
  • Exposure to big data platforms or advanced data engineering frameworks.
